What is CBD?

What we know about CBD, or cannabidiol.

What’s Cannabidiol?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is derived from the hemp plant, a cousin of the marijuana plant. While it is a component of medical marijuana, CBD does not cause a “high." Instead, CBD is extracted and used to make in various products, including oils, creams, capsules, and more.

CBD vs THC

While CBD and THC have the same molecular structure, they are arranged differently, which causes the differences in effects on the body. While THC, which is found in marijuana, has psychoactive effects and produces a feeling of euphoria, CBD isn’t able to cause a feeling of euphoria, and instead is used to treat feelings of anxiety, depression, and others.

Is CBD legal?

Laws on hemp and cannabis differ between states. CBD is legal for recreational and medicinal use in the same states that have legalized medical marijuana. Some states that prohibit marijuana do have exceptions for CBD. Many states have passed cannabis-related laws to legalize both THC and CBD.
